McFarland Funeral Chapel: Proudly Serving Area Veterans for over 100 years!

At McFarland Funeral Chapel we are honored to be immersed in a community that has a strong sense of honoring veterans with a Veteran’s Service office, as well as three prominent veteran’s groups in the area. In fact, Polk County, NC has a higher percentage of veterans per capita than most counties in the United States. We have a deep sense of responsibility and an enduring commitment to serving our revered veterans and their families in a manner befitting national heroes. We understand how acutely grief can be felt when you lose a loved one, and we are committed to taking the burden of paperwork and navigating policies and procedures off of your family during this difficult time. Let us put our experience to work for you by assisting with everything before and during the funeral.

Serving North and South Carolina area veterans and their families is truly an honor. We are ready to assist our cherished veterans and their families with the following services:

  • Based on the wishes of your veteran, we can arrange for a Military Honor Guard, trained in military drill ceremonies, to be present at the graveside service. This can also include a firing squad to honor your courageous veteran. In addition, we’ll provide the folding and presenting of the flag to the next-of-kin, along with Taps played on a bugle.
  • We feel privileged to put our firsthand knowledge and expertise of military affairs to work for you by assisting in filing all of the necessary Veterans Affairs forms, including the application for a headstone and burial benefits. At McFarland Funeral Chapel, we understand how challenging and laborious this process can be and will gladly handle these tasks for our grieving families.
  • In the case that your loved one’s military discharge papers cannot be located, we will gladly assist you in requesting these from military personnel records, at both the state and the local level. Rest assured we will go the extra mile to make sure the necessary paper work is handled properly and promptly.
  • Recognizing that some veterans wish to be buried in a national cemetery, we are prepared to make the necessary arrangements on the family’s behalf with the National Cemetery Administration. Additionally, we are prepared to handle the transportation needs and arrange for a Military Honor Guard at the national cemetery of your choice. If the spouse of the deceased veteran also chooses to be buried alongside their veteran, we will assist in securing his or her plot as well.
