Obituary
Columbus, NC- Wendy Nicole Mitchem Smith, 41, of Columbus, NC passed away at home on Sunday, May 21, 2023.
Wendy was born and raised in Rutherford County, NC and was the daughter of Larry and Pam Mitchem. She was a graduate of RS Central High School. She attended Wake Technical College and made the President’s Honors List for culinary arts. Wendy loved animals and leaves behind her “goof troop” Noble and Spade.
Surviving in addition to her parents, is her husband William Lonnie Smith; two brothers, Darrell Mitchem of Rutherfordton, Spencer Mitchem (Brandy) of King, NC; one sister, Candace Grissom of Forest City, NC; four nieces, Brandy, Erika, Megan and Emily and three nephews, Chad, Justin, and Hunter and many aunts uncles and cousins.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, June 11, 2023 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Carolina Event and Conference Center, 376 Hudlow Road, Forest City, NC 28043. This will be an informal drop-in event, please feel free to come as you are.
To honor Wendy’s love for animals, memorials may be made to a local animal shelter of your choice.
