LYNN – Wayne Moore Duncan, 84, of Lynn, passed away, Wednesday morning, July 8, 2020 at his home following a brief illness.
Born in Shelby, he was the son the late Grant and Moree Johnson Duncan. Wayne moved to Polk County in 1957 and several years later started work at Hatch Mill retiring in 2006. For 28 years, Wayne coached Little League Baseball at Harmon Field and his players became his passion and considered them family. When Wayne was not working or coaching, he enjoyed working in his yard. Wayne was a member of Lynn First Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Kay Jones.
Surviving is his loving wife of 62 years, Mary Frances Story Duncan; a son, Alan Duncan of Lynn; one special daughter, Sheila Thompson of Lynn and her children, Colin Thompson, Walker Thompson and Caitlyn Thompson; and a son, Larry W. Duncan of Shelby; two brothers, Craig Duncan and Bill Duncan both of Shelby; two sisters, Doris Duncan and Elizabeth Reid both of Shelby; sister-in-law, Lydia Wylie (Mack) of Tennessee and brother-in-law, Jack Story (Louise) of Lynn.
A celebration of Wayne’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, July 12, 2020 in the McFarland Funeral Chapel with Reverend Jimmie Owens and Reverend John Davis officiating.
The family will receive friends prior to the service Sunday afternoon from 1:00 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. at the funeral chapel.
