CAMPOBELLO -- Teena Cloninger Barnes, 70, of Campobello, SC passed away April 9, 2023 at home, after a hard fought battle with cancer.
Teena was a native of Gastonia NC, born January 11, 1953 to Dennis and Alma Cloninger. She was a member of the first graduating class of Ashbrook High School in 1971 and a lifelong member of Loray Baptist Church. Teena paved the way for women in the cotton industry in North Carolina. From her early employment at Lawson Cotton Company to managing large cotton warehouses across the state, she was proud to be one of the few women in this male-dominated industry. Teena was passionate about her family. She adored her grandchildren and would happily show strangers in line at Hobby Lobby pictures from her phone. She was our family’s go-to for all things crafting. Jewelry, floral arrangements, wreaths- she could do it all. And most importantly she couldn’t wait to give that item away. Giving was her love language.
Teena is survived by husband Worth H. Barnes, daughter Kelly Fijalkowski and husband Tony, daughter Alicia Menas and husband Jeff, son Kyle Barnes and wife Sara. Grandchildren Sophie and Nicholas Fijalkowski, Jeffrey, Merrissa and Robert Menas, and Liat and Finn Barnes. Brother Dennis Cloninger Jr. and sister Gay Sprankle and husband Marty. Brothers and sisters-in-law Len and Barbara Barnes, Robert and Marcia Barnes, and Thomas and Toni Barnes. Mother-in-law Mira Grubb (Kim). Nieces and nephews Lisa Cloninger (Kathi), Laura Taylor (Mike), Jake Beam, Jenna Michaels (Matt) and Nino Barnes. Great niece and nephew Khloe Beam and Matthew Taylor. Extended family Sylvia Gardner Lewis, Billie and Nancy Jenkins, Susie Cressman and Teresa Todd.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved aunt Pearl Gardner, sister-in-law Sally Cloninger, and nephews Adam and Michael Taylor.
Following cremation, the family will receive friends from 1 to 2pm on Friday, April 14th, with a memorial service immediately following at Loray Baptist Church, Gastonia, NC.
