Lena Spradley Daniel

September 15, 1932 ~ February 27, 2022 (age 89)

Lena Rebekah Spradley Daniel, age 89, died on Sunday, February 27, 2022 at Ridge Rest Assisted Living Center in Columbus, NC, with her family by her side.

Born in Pinehurst, Georgia on her family’s Lonesome Pine Farm, she was the daughter of the late Ossie T Spradley and Mary Kenneth Watson Spradley. She adored her late siblings: Leila Hayes Spradley Winters (husband Jack), J. W. Spradley (wife Marilyn), Ossie T. Spradley, Jr. (wife Frances), and Doc Watson Spradley.

Lena was the epitome of unconditional love. Doting on her family, friends, and pets was her purpose in life. Lena had a joyful zest for life and a ready smile. She accepted with grace the curves that life threw her. Lena was a good listener and loved to laugh. Whenever one of us returned home, whether from just an errand or out of state, she always wanted us to tell her all about our adventures as she rocked in her chair. Her family is still rocking in her chair as we cherish our memories such as her meals we ate as a family. Lena loved working in the yard, and she created award-winning flower arrangements for her garden clubs.

Lena was a loving and dedicated wife to her late husband of 59 years, Alfred Carlton Daniel. They raised their family in Huntsville, AL and Dalton, GA. Lena was extremely devoted and proud of her four children: Lisa Ann Daniel DellaGuardia (husband Ron) of Asheville, NC; Thomas Duke Daniel (wife Elaine) of Anderson, SC; Molly Rebekah Daniel Ponder (husband Brian) of Weaverville, NC; and Judd Edward Daniel of Tryon, NC. She is survived by eleven grandchildren (Anna, Dan, James; Matt, Blake, Haley, Maggie; Lena Kate, Jack; Alder, and Rowie) and nine great-grandchildren (Ansel; Eli, Lucy Hayes, Whitley Kate; Luke, Isaac, Asa; Ansley, and Allie James).

Lena’s family expresses a special thank you to all of the wonderful staff at Ridge Rest Assisted Living Center for the kindness, loving care and friendship given so freely to Lena.
