Joretta Walker Scott

Joretta Walker Scott, 90, of Cartersville, Georgia passed away Friday April 28, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on October 17, 1932 in Mill Spring, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Joseph N. walker and Ura Whiteside Walker.

Joretta was preceded in death by her husband Fredrick W. Scott, her parents, and her siblings Phillip D. Walker, Joan W. Roberts, and Joe Walker. She is survived in life by her siblings Linda Martin, Jon Foster, Rebecca Walker, Sheila Shields, Mark Walker, and Karen Mills. Also by her daughters Julie Kimbel (Jeff) and Sherri Crawford (Steve) as well as 3 grandchildren, Morgan Kimbel Hucker (Matthieu), Tyler Crawford, and Bryce Crawford.

Joretta attended Western Carolina University and continued working on a Masters Degree in Special Education. She taught school for 3 years in North Carolina, and in 1957 married Fredrick W. Scott, then moved to Cartersville as teachers. Her teaching career spanned 33 years, and she retired in 1993. Several of her honors included Star Teacher and Teacher of the Year. Her loving spirit and servant heart touched the lives of many. Her bright smile will be remembered by all.

Joretta was an active member of Delta Kappa Gamma, a key Teacher Organization, and served as President. After she retired from teaching she became a docent at the Booth Western Art Museum. As a faithful member of Heritage Baptist Church, she was active in many Church organizations and taught Sunday School for years. She was also involved with Meals on Wheels. Joretta loved cross stitch, playing tennis and exercising, walking, cooking, and spending time with her cherished and beloved grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, May 5 at Heritage Baptist Church in Cartersville. The family will receive friends on Friday from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm at Heritage Baptist , with a service to follow at 2:00 pm.
