Jeffrey Kong, known as Jeff was born 59 years ago in a small town in Upstate NY. He worked his whole life in a profession that may be overlooked but it is needed and he was good at what he did. He was respected for his knowledge, attention to detail and to the care he had for his job. However, his most important role and the role he did best was being a husband to Gwynne and a father to Kaitlyn and Sabrina. He is also survived by two brothers, John and George and his sister, May.
Jeff died on March 14, 2021. Otherwise very healthy (he was right to be proud of his muscular physique), his heart just gave out in the middle of a task. He was doing what he was known to do, work in the yard or on the house to make all our lives better. Jeff showed his love through actions, he was always found starting or ending one task or another. He always improved our houses into homes. He taught himself electrical work and moved a whole propane stove. Jeff put thought and care into everything he did. He might not have lost all his rough edges as he sometimes spoke exactly what he was thinking but he never meant it with any malice it was just his truth. He was strong in both body and mind, but a little hard of hearing after a rock concert in the 80s. He finally got hearing aids to help with that – made all our lives easier. He was hardly ever still, although he could be found occasionally playing games on the Playstation. He loved us with all his being and thought about us often – proven by his ability to get us gifts that were just for us. He loved our pets and Chinese food, he even liked having a pool this last summer. He believed in us having time together as a family and we got to go to Scotland and Iceland as well as multiple trips in the US and even a Cruise. He was a great provider for his family and kept us warm and safe and we are all just devastated at his loss. We didn’t get to Thank him for everything he did daily; big or small – just for us (he didn’t do it for thanks he did it from love), we didn’t get to tell him we loved him one last time, we didn’t get to say goodbye -
As You worked, an angel sighed
“Take my hand it’s time to fly”
You took his hand but just to say
“Thank you friend, I’d rather stay”.
It was too late, You’d already left
It wasn’t your plan to leave us bereft
You’ll live on in memories we hold dear
Your love will radiate throughout the years
You are not alone, your family is there
They welcomed you with love and care
We will grieve, cry and miss you though
Your time with us meant more than you’ll know
Your love for us is strong and true
Our love for you remains so too
Expect to hear us talk to you or hope you see
All the amazing things the girls turn out to be
A Husband, Father, Friend and so much more
Know that I will miss your snore
My love I know that you are gone
But know that our love for you lives on.
The family will have a receiving of friends to celebrate Jeff’s life on Tuesday, March 23, 2021 from 2:00p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at McFarland Funeral Chapel in Tryon, NC. His wishes were to be cremated.
