TRYON – Edward Hoyt Britton, Jr., 86, of Tryon, passed away, Monday morning, December 27, 2021 at White Oak Manor of Tryon.
Born in Ringoes, New Jersey, he was the son the late Edward Hoyt Britton and Grace Edith Thorn Britton. Ed married Nancy Ann Nixon October 5, 1957 in New Jersey. Mr. Britton joined Flemington Baptist Church in 1948. Ed and Nancy owned and operated the Carpet Center and moved in 1981 to North Carolina. Ed designed and built their dream log home viewing White Oak Mountain. Ed and Nancy owned and operated Skyuka Ace Hardware in Lynn until their retirement in 1999.
After retirement, they enjoyed traveling and dividing their time between Tryon and their home in Merritt Island, Florida. They sold that home in 2013 and continued to live in Columbus. When in Florida, Ed enjoyed singing with the Singing Seniors and the Merry Melodies at Temple Baptist Church. He was past president and founder of the Thermal Belt Rotary Club having over 40 years of attendance. Ed enjoyed golf, working in his shop making yard art, wooden trucks and most recently coloring, having over 700 as of 2019. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Tryon.
Surviving is his wife of 64 years, Nancy Ann Nixon Britton; one daughter, Linda Hickey of Tomball, Texas; two sons, Chuck Britton (Denise) of Columbus, North Carolina and Edward H. Britton, III (Laurie) of Powell, Tennessee; seven grandchildren, Joshua, Jeremy, Haley (Michael), Justin, Christina (Alex), Brandon (Brittany) and Caitlin; four great-grandchildren, Luke, Nolan, Zoey and Garrison; one brother, Bill Britton (Judy) of Naples, Florida.
A drop-in celebration of Ed’s life will be held January 22, 2022 from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Sunnydale in Tryon.
