Obituary

Tryon, NC--Colleen Hunt Hibbard, 86, of Tryon NC, passed away peacefully on Sunday January 10, 2021 at Spartanburg Regional Hospital.

She was born in Rutherford County on June 12, 1934 in Golden Valley Township in the front room of her grandmothers’ log cabin to Coye Poe Hunt and Mary Ora Anna Toney Hunt.  The oldest of four children. Donald Hunt (deceased), Gary Hunt, Judy Hunt Hall. She had a strong relationship with her family and loved her siblings, cousins and her many nieces and nephews.  She is survived by her daughter Jacquelyn Beck (Craig) of Pleasanton Tx.  She had a special bond with her only granddaughter Jessica Colleen who preceded her in death much too soon.

She was a very career focused woman and was always respected by her co-workers.  She had an interesting career life including Comptroller for a large conglomerate headquartered in Charlotte, NC where she lived all her adult life.   She became a project manager for industrial construction during a time that few women were entering this field.  She was proud of her successful career and mentored many young professionals.

She was a devoted member of the Davidson United Methodist Church and most recently of the Tryon United Methodist Church; she sang in the Davidson outreach singers, was a member of the Davidson Book Club, Methodist prayer shawl ministry and was a member of the Coulwood Bridge Club, with her closest lifelong friends, for over 50 years.  Her greatest passion was genealogical research documenting both her own family and helping many others to discover their roots.  She was an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, United Daughters of the Confederacy, Clan Donal, and The Descendants of the Mayflower.

She lived life to the fullest from attending more horse shows with her daughter than anyone can count; to traveling to the beach with “The Girls and Tres”, and trips abroad with her beloved granddaughter.

There will be a Celebration of her new life with the Lord announced, at a later date.

Memorials may be made to the Golden Valley Church Cemetery Fund at PO Box 460 Bostic, NC 28018.
