Billy Edward McCurry

Lynn, NC – Billy Edward McCurry, 93 of Lynn, NC went home to be with the Lord on Monday, January 9, 2023.

A native of Polk County, he was the son of the late William McKinley and Annie Mae Lindsey McCurry.  He proudly served in the Army during the Korean War.  Many local people often referred to Billy by his nickname “Wackle”.  In his younger years, he was very involved with local sports and was a member of the Lynn Championship Fast Pitch Softball Team.  He also loved the Atlanta Braves, fishing, and hunting.  Billy was employed by General Electric and retired in 1992. He was a longtime member of Lynn First Baptist Church where he previously served as a deacon.

Billy was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Darnell McCurry in 2017.  He was also predeceased by five sisters, Bertha McMillian, Luella McCurry, Cora McCurry, Ruby Alewine and Barbara GIllie; and a grandson, McKinley William McCurry.

Surviving are two daughters, Terri McCurry Raburn (Garland) of Columbus, NC, and Traci McCurry Gregory (Paul) of Tryon, NC; a son, Timothy William McCurry of Lynn, NC; one brother, Charles McCurry (Lib) of Mills River, NC; one sister, Joyce Arledge (Hub) of Tryon, NC; ten grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

The family wishes to thank Billy's dedicated caregiver, Melissa for the care and support she provided him.

A funeral will be held at Lynn First Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 12, 2023 with Rev Jimmy Owens and Rev. Aaron Pruitt officiating.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:30 p.m. to 1:45 p.m.

 Burial will follow the service at Polk Memorial Gardens in Columbus, NC with military honors will be conducted by the Polk County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard.
