Columbus, NC – Alan G. Blanchard, age 75, went to be with Jesus in his heavenly home on Tuesday, May 24, 2022 surrounded by his wife and daughters.
Born in Concord, NH he was the son of Garald and Doris (Blanchard) and Robert Blodgett. Alan’s Christian faith was an essential part of his life, and he shared Christ’s love with everyone he met. He loved the Lord, his family, church, friends, and his country.
Alan served in the Army National Guard, entering on January 17, 1966 and Honorably Discharged on September 20, 1971 as Specialist Four Company C 242nd Combat Engineer Battalion (C) (A). He re-enlisted on July 21, 1973, and was awarded the Expert Badge – Rifle M16A1 on September 9, 1973. Alan was again Honorably Discharged on July 20, 1974 as Specialist Five E5 Company C 242nd Combat Engineer Battalion (C) (A). He was a member of the Tryon NC American Legion where he proudly served as an Honor Guard. He couldn’t pass by a US flag without saluting.
Alan retired from Southern New England Telephone Co. in 1995, working as an architectural engineer for 30 years, and moved to Columbus, NC in 1996 with his beloved wife and daughter Heather. During his time living in NC, he was employed as a building inspector for Polk County NC, Henderson County NC, Charleston SC county, and SafeBuilt (working in SC and Atlanta, GA). While in NC, he enjoyed being an actor/extra for multiple television shows, including Homeland and in the movie Iron Man III. His last movie was “Walk Through The Valley” where he had multiple lines playing an attorney.
Alan enjoyed being a member of Columbus Baptist Church, and looked forward to praising God at the worship services.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Garald “Buddy”. Surviving is his wife of 53 years, Cyndi; his two daughters, Deborah Ramada (Mark) of CT, Heather Blanchard of NC, granddaughters Jordan Hosking and Megan Hosking of CT, sister Susan Frantum of MA, and nieces and nephews.
Service will be held on Saturday, May 28 at 11:00 AM at Columbus Baptist Church with Rev. Timothy Fortune officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service at 10:00. Military honors will be conducted by the Polk County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard. A lunch reception will follow the service. Interment will be held privately at a later date.
