Tryon, N.C. - W. C. Johnson, 78, of Tuckaway Lane, Tryon, NC died Monday, September 9, 2013 in the Hospice House of the Carolina Foothills, Landrum, SC.Born in Spartanburg County, SC, he was the son of the late Otha and Tucora Miller Johnson. He was a Veteran of the U. S. Army, retiring in l980 as a Master Sergeant after 23 years of service. W. C. was a member of the St. Luke's CME church, Tryon, NC.Surviving are his wife of 41 years, Rose Jackson Johnson; a daughter, Kristina Johnson of Spartanburg, SC; a son, William Leonard Cunningham Hilton of Long Beach, NY; and a sister, Lorena Cunningham of Tryon, NC. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren Kaliana, Kaleb, Raquel, Trey Sean, Efrin Lowell, William Hilton Jr. and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Sean L. Johnson who died in 2006 and a brother, Savannah Johnson.Graveside memorial services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 14, 2013 in the Good Shepherd Cemetery, Tryon, NC with Rev. Eleanor Miller officiating.Family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Friday night in the McFarland Funeral Chapel, Tryon, NC.
