Saluda, N.C. - Willie Eugene Cooke, Jr., 73, husband of Dolores M. Cooke, 141 Frost Road, Saluda, NC died Saturday, August 12, 2006 at his home. Born in Charleston, SC, he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Willie and Maggie Atkins Cooke. Mr. Cooke was a veteran of the Korean War while serving in the U.S. Navy. He retired as a Civil Service employee from the Charleston Naval Shipyard. Mr. Cooke was a member of Saluda First Baptist Church where he was a beloved Sunday School teacher. He also volunteered in the community, having devotions at Autumn Care Saluda and assisted with Meals on Wheels. He was a good, fun loving father, grandfather, and a devoted and loving husband. He will be greatly missed for his servant's heart and his love for the Lord. Surviving besides his wife are: one son & daughter in law, Mark Dean and Jane Leigh Meredith Cooke of Charleston, SC; two daughters and their husbands, Cynthia Hope Stewart of Greenville, SC married to William Thomas Stewart, Jr. and Lisa Ann Aultman of Sherrills Ford, NC married to Timothy Hall Aultman; nine grandchildren; Rachel and Patrick Simonis, Seth Cooke, Joel & Kristin Cooke, Sarah Cooke, Hannah Cooke, Amber Aultman, Travis Aultman, Will Stewart, and Callie Aultman; two sisters, Dorothy Rey of Charleston, SC and Joy Sheehan of Pennsylvania. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, August 15, 2006 at 1:00 pm at Saluda First Baptist Church with Rev. Ray Talley officiating. Burial will be in Saluda City Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday, August 14, 2006 from 6:30 until 8:00 P.M. in McFarland Funeral Chapel. Memorials may be made to: Four Seasons Hospice, 571 South Allen Road, Hendersonville, NC 28731.
