Columbus, NC - William Blackwell Moore, 91, died Sunday, September 24, 2006 in Tryon Estates, Columbus, NC. Born in Gastonia, NC, he was the son of the late Hugh Langford and Rebecca Blackwell Moore. Mr. Moore was a lst Lt. in the U. S. Marines, serving as Company Commander in Iwo Jima during WWII where he received a purple heart. He moved to Polk County in l952. Later he was retired from Conrad, Hoey, East CPA Firm, Spartanburg, SC. He was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Holy Cross, Tryon, NC. Surviving are: many friends whose lives he touched and a niece, Janet Montgomery of Creston, NC. Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 27, 2006 in the Hollywood Cemetery, Gastonia, NC with Rev. Joe Foster officiating. A memorial service will be held Monday, October 2, 2006 in the Tryon Estates OakBridge Terrace dining hall at 2:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to your favorite charity.
