-- William "Allen" Jones, 75, of Tryon, NC passed away on Monday, July 15, 2019. Allen was the son of the late Walter William and Jennie Bishop Jones. Allen was a Polk County native and considered Polk County to be the best on earth. Allen proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era. One of Allen's most memorable moments in life was seeing the beautiful North Carolina mountains upon returning home after service. Allen loved nature and wildlife and enjoyed hunting, fishing and bird watching. Allen was a member of Tryon Second Baptist Church.In addition to his parents, Allen was preceded in death by a brother, Walter Douglas Jones and three sisters, Frances Jones, Caroline Jones Wofford and a sister at birth.Allen is survived by his wife Betty Hood Jones; son, Jeffrey William Jones (Mary) of Columbus, NC; one brother Michael Keith Jones of Landrum, SC; a grandson, Justin William Jones (Courtney) of Columbus, NC and one grand daughter Kristen Faith Jones of Columbus, NC. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews.A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, July 19th, 2019 in the McFarland Funeral Chapel in Tryon, North Carolina with Reverend John Williams, Dr. Dennis Jones and Reverend Joe Geddes officiating.The family will receive friends prior to the service form 12:00 p.m. to 12:45 p.m. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens in Columbus, North Carolina.Military Rites will be given by the Polk County Veteran Memorial Honor Guard.
