COLUMBUS, NC - William "Bill" H. Fletcher, 91, of Laurel Lake Dr., Tryon Estates, Columbus, NC died Wednesday, May 9, 2007 in Tryon Estates Medical Facility in Columbus, NC.Born in Eureka, KS, he was the son of the late Samuel Joseph and Nora Atkinson Fletcher and husband of the late Caroline "Kay" H. Fletcher who died in 2004. He was a graduate of the College of Idaho and earned his PhD from the University of Minnesota. Dr. Fletcher retired from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville as a Chemistry Professor. He was a member of the Church of the Good Samaritan in Knoxville, TN. He and his wife moved to Polk County, NC in 1998 coming from Knoxville, TN.Surviving are two daughters, Elizabeth Wagner of Auburn, GA and Nancy Etheridge of Tallahassee, FL; one son, Robert M. Fletcher of San Jose, CA; one brother, Allen Fletcher of Hereford, OR. Also surviving are 4 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.No local services will be held.Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, 130 Forest Glen Drive, Columbus, NC 28722.
