Tryon, N.C. - Wayne Burkehead Strother McFarland, 85, wife of Frank Kenneth McFarland, Jr., formerly of Freeman Hill, Tryon, NC died Sunday, May 06, 2007 in White Oak Manor Nursing Center, Tryon, NC. Born in Laurens, SC, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Kathleen Sitgreaves Burkehead. Mrs. McFarland was Vice-President of McFarland Funeral Chapel and owner of Wayne S. McFarland Interiors, both of Tryon, NC. She was known locally for her beautiful Christmas decorations and over the years she was active in many community activities. She was a member of the Green Blades Garden Club and the Lanier Library. She was a member of the Tryon Presbyterian Church, Tryon, NC. Surviving beside her husband of 56 years are: a son, F. K. McFarland, III and daughter-in-law, Darlene of Tryon, NC; a sister, Jacqueline B. Hall of Batesburg, SC and a grandson, Frank K. "Keen" McFarland, IV of Tryon, NC. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Michael Gary Strother who died in l990. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 Tuesday, May 8, 2007 in the McFarland Funeral Chapel with Dr. Darryl E. Maxwell and Dr. James C. McPherson officiating. Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens, Columbus, NC. Family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. prior to the service in the McFarland Funeral Chapel.
