Rock Hill, SC - Virginia Mathis Thornton, 86, formerly of Columbus, NC died Friday, March 07, 2008 in Patrick Hospice House, Rock Hill, SC. Born in Polk County, NC, she was the daughter of the late Lum and Anna Roddy Mathis. She was a member of the Tryon First Baptist Church where she was in the WMU. Surviving are: her husband of 58 years, Jesse B. Thornton: two daughters, Sheila T. Cox of Charlotte, NC and Gloria T. Ross of Rock Hill, SC; three sisters, Janie Price of Mill Spring, NC; Sallie Beheeler of Rutherfordton, NC and Rebecca Reese of Saluda, NC. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Hannah and Daniel Cox and Jared Ross. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 10, 2008 in the McFarland Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Green River Baptist Church Cemetery, Green Creek, NC. Family will receive friends just prior to the funeral from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. Monday in the McFarland Funeral Chapel, Tryon, NC. Memorials may be made to the Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House, P.O.
