Obituary

Thomas R. Boles (“Tom”) passed away peacefully at home on April 18, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

Tom was born in Marion County, Indiana, and made his home in Polk County, North Carolina, beginning in 1977. He built a life marked by independence, resilience, and a deep commitment to both his work and his family.

Tom proudly served his country in the United States Coast Guard from 1964 to 1968. In 1974, he married the love of his life, Connie, and together they built a strong and enduring partnership. In 1979, Tom began a long and respected career with Milliken & Company, where he worked in research until his retirement in 2007. He was known for his precision and ability to solve problems—qualities that defined both his career and his everyday life.

A skilled machinist and natural problem-solver, Tom had a gift for fixing and improving anything he set his mind to. Whether in his workshop or around his home, he approached everything with thoughtfulness and determination. He believed in doing things the right way and took pride in a job well done.

Tom was a devoted husband to his wife, Connie, and a steady, guiding presence for his family. He is survived by his wife, Connie; his son and daughter-in-law Daniel and Sherry; his grandson Coleby; his son Brian; his granddaughter Jazmine Barnes (Casey Smith); and his great-grandchildren Olivia, Owen, Everly, and Everson. He is also survived by his sister, Annette Cook and brother-in-law Arlie Cook; and his nephews Richard Cook (Gloria) and Jim Wells (Lynn). He was preceded in death by his son, Thomas Christian “Chris” Boles. Even in his final days, Tom continued to share his knowledge and wisdom, offering guidance and instruction to those he loved.

Tom attended Grace Foothills Church and was a man of strong Christian faith. He believed in the promise of everlasting life through Christ and took comfort in that assurance. His family finds peace in knowing that he is now feasting with our Lord and Savior.

“Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.” — Revelation 19:9

He found fulfillment in the simple and meaningful rhythms of life—working with his hands, maintaining his property, solving problems, and caring for his family. He will be remembered for his sharp mind, mechanical ingenuity, quiet strength, and unwavering dedication to those he loved.

A Celebration of Life will be held in North Carolina on Saturday, May 9 at 2:00 PM at 277 Wildberry Lane, Tryon, NC, followed by a group remembrance motorcycle ride. Those who wish to participate are welcome to join as Tom is honored with a final ride—something he loved and shared with his sons and grandson. A separate Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m., May 30, 2026 at 7520 East 75th Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46226.
