Obituary

Columbus, N.C. - Thomas McCord Mosca, 58, of Possom Trot Lane, Columbus, NC died Wednesday, July 28, 2010 in the Smith Phayer Hospice House, Landrum, SC.Born in Glendale, CA, he was the son of Betty McCord Mosca of Columbus, NC and the late Col. Herbert Pratt Mosca. He was a graduate of Ward Melville High School, Setauket, LI, NY class of l971 and received a BS degree in Business Administration from Rochester Institute of Technology, Rochester, NY in 1975. Tom spent most of his working years in the computer software industry, retiring from Activant Corporation, Dallas, TX in 2008. Locally he volunteered with and was a past president of the Tryon Riding and Hunt Club, was a past chairman of the Block House Steeplechase, was a board member of the Piedmont Council of Boy Scouts of America and had hosted three AFS students. He was also instrumental in the beginning of the Charlotte, NC steeplechase. Mr. Mosca was a past member of the Tryon Presbyterian Church, Tryon, NC.Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife of 37 years, Lorraine Worthington Mosca, a son, Thomas McCord Mosca, Jr. of Columbus, NC; a brother, Herbert Mosca of Denver, CO and a sister, Nancy Carrey of Ormond Beach, FL.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 7, 2010 in the McFarland Funeral Chapel, Tryon, NC with Rev. Dr. Dent Davis and Mr. Bill Cline officiating.Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens, Columbus, NC.Family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m Friday, August 6, 2010 at the home of John & Cindy Boyle, 375 Fairview Farms Road, Campobello, SC 29322.Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, 130 Forest Glen Dr., Columbus, NC 28722.
