Obituary

Thetis Ballenger Rush, ninety-two, a native of Greer, died at home in Columbus, North Carolina after a prolonged illness. She was a daughter of the late Everett Guy Ballenger and Una Jackson Ballenger of Greer. Her grandparents were Charles Walker Ballenger and Martha Groce Ballenger and David Bunyan Jackson, MD and Emma Frances Evans Jackson of Greer. She was pre-deceased by her brother, Charles David Ballenger. She was the widow of Dr. Carroll Walton Rush. Surviving are her son, Carroll W. Rush of Columbus, her daughter, Lucy Rush Kendrick of Marietta, Georgia, and grandchildren, Catherine McBee and Rush McBee, both of Atlanta. She is also survived by her sister, Martha Ballenger Lesley of Silver Spring, Maryland. Mrs. Rush was president of the Greer High School class of 1940 and was a graduate of Limestone College. Throughout a full life as a writer and researcher, a teacher, professional organizations leader and participant in community activities, she was enduringly proud of her Church association. Mrs. Rush had an early career in religious education, having served on the staffs at the First Baptist Churches of Lancaster, Darlington and Columbia. She was a long-term member of First Baptist Church of Greenwood. Private services will be held at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Greenwood. The family will receive visitors at the Memorial Gardens mausoleum chapel from ten until noon on Tuesday.
