Obituary

Mill Spring, NC-Tamar Elizabeth Harris died at Spartanburg Regional medical Center on Thursday November 17 as a result of injuries sustained in a fall at her home in the Lake Adger section of Mill Spring.Mrs. Harris was born April 12, 1943 in Hartford, Connecticut, the daughter of William F. Cooney and Majel Williams Cooney. She grew up in Darien, Connecticut and attended school there and at the Penn Hall School in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania and the School of Education of New York University. She was gifted in her artistic and decorative abilities. She was employed in the jewelry business in Savannah for several years.Mrs. Harris was predeceased by her parents and her sister, Martha-Dell B. Cooney. She married Charles Anthony Harris February 12, 1966 in Darien, Connecticut. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter Amy Williams of Rock Hill, South Carolina and her son Luke Harris of Richmond Hill, Georgia together with five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Also surviving is her brother John G. Cooney of Randleman.Mrs. Harris was a Mayflower descendant of William and Resolved White and of the very first Puritan settlers of Massachusetts Bay Colony. Her ancestors were early settlers of western Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire.Mrs. Harris and her husband had a home built in Lake Adger ten years ago when they retired from Savannah and greatly enjoyed living there. In recent years she traveled around the country in the RV which they purchased several years ago. Mr. and Mrs. Harris were looking forward to their fiftieth wedding anniversary and a trip to Europe.A memorial service to celebrate the life Tamar Harris will be held at a later date.
