Jane Carruth passed away in the early morning hours of October 3, 2021, at Dunwoody Place Assisted Living in Atlanta, Georgia at the age of 79.  She was born July 4, 1942, in Abbeville, South Carolina to Claude and Alda Carruth.Jane earned a bachelor's degree in history from Emory University, where she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa.  She also held a master's degree in special education from Central Connecticut State University. Education was very important to Jane. She spent her working career as a classroom teacher and administrator in Georgia, Massachusetts, and Connecticut with an emphasis on special education. A staunch advocate for disadvantaged and learning-disabled students, she specialized in the development of individualized educational programs, teaching, and mentoring non-traditional students of all ages. She was also an avid gardener, with a fondness for cultivating roses, and enjoyed a variety of arts and crafts activities.Jane is predeceased by her parents, and survived by daughters, Lee Wachtel, MD of Baltimore, Maryland, Kathryn Reynolds of Bedford, Massachusetts, brother, Claude and sister, Margaret, both of Atlanta, Georgia, and grandchildren, Naava, Shaya, Nissim, Henry and Sam. She will be laid to rest beside her parents in a private family service at Polk Memorial Gardens on October 7, 2021.
