Stephen Andrew Byers, 65, of Mill Spring, NC, died Monday, February 19, 2018 in his home.Born in Pineville, NC, he was the son of Bertha Atkins Byers and the late Harold Byers. He was a veteran of the U.S. National Guard. Stephen retired from Pike Electric where he worked as a lineman. He enjoyed fishing and making duck and turkey calls. Stephen was a member of Coopers Gap Baptist Church.Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Carolyn Fortenberry Byers of the home; mother, Bertha Atkins Byers of Rutherfordton, NC; a son, Wayne Byers (Regina) of Columbus, NC; a daughter, Melissa Price of Spartanburg, SC; three grandchildren, Kelsey McEntire (Chris), Kristin Byers, and Kaylee Price (Fiancé- Austin); three great grandchildren, Cole Huntley, Callie Huntley, and Camdyn McEntire; three step grandchildren, Shyann Cook, Tyler Cook, and Noah Cook; one step great grandchild, Hunter Williams. Also surviving are two brothers, Donnie Byers (Betty) of Forest City, NC and Kevin Byers (Connie) of Snow Camp, NC.A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Thursday February 22, 2018 in Coopers Gap Baptist Church, Mill Spring, NC, with Rev. Don Hollifield officiating.The family will receive friends Wednesday, February 21, 2018 from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. in McFarland Funeral Chapel, Tryon, NC.Burial will be in the church cemetery with military rites by the Polk County Veteran Memorial Honor Guard.
