January 15, 1941 – September 11, 2025
Samuel "Sam" E. Constance, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on September 11, 2025. He was born on January 15, 1941, to Charles Allen and Katherine "Kate" Constance.
Sam graduated from Biltmore High School and proudly served in the U.S. Army. His life changed forever when he met the love of his life, Virginia "Marie" Holcombe, at the local ice cream parlor on Montford Avenue in Asheville. They were married on Christmas Eve in 1960 and shared 64 wonderful years together.
Sam spent most of his career with Public Service Gas Company. In 2000, he and Marie moved to Columbus, NC, where they purchased and lovingly restored the old Constance family homeplace of C.C. and Harriett A. Constance (also known as Constant). It remains their cherished home.
Sam is survived by his devoted wife, Marie, their four children, nine grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren:
· Connie Bradley and her husband, Scott, and their sons, Morgan and Jackson.
· Bonnie Riddle and her husband, Arthur, and their children: Lucy and her husband, Mack Brown, and their children, Trey and Bayli; Mellissa and her husband, Eran Zur; and Heather and her husband, Park Harris.
· Samuel Constance and his wife, Dawn, and their children: Brooklyn and her husband, Jacob Ketterer, and their children, Reagan, Austyn, and Holden; Savannah Constance and her daughter, Brynlee; Dylan Constance; and Samuel (Walker) Constance and his wife, Ashlyn, and their son, Samuel (Creed) Constance.
· Thomas Constance and his wife, Susie.
Service Arrangements:
Funeral services will be held at Columbus Baptist Church on Tuesday, September 16, 2025 at 2:00 p.m.
Visitation will take place prior to the service from 1:00–2:00 p.m.
A private family graveside service will be held immediately after the funeral.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Columbus Baptist Church, 45 Houston Road, Columbus, NC 28722.
The family sincerely appreciates the love and support shown by Columbus Baptist Church and Sandy Springs Baptist Church during this time.
