Obituary

Columbus, NC- Ruth M. Wright, a resident of Tryon Estates, died April 22, 2007. She was born in Poughkeepsie, NY, the daughter of Archibald R. and Eva G. Martin. She grew up in Rockville Centre, Long Island where she studied piano and voice. She graduated from South Side High School and Berkeley-Llewellyn School in Manhattan.She was a volunteer at the French Hospital during WW II while working in the financial district of NYC. She sang with South Shore Light Opera League and at the Jones Beach Summer Theater. She also taught Sunday School and sang in church choirs for several years before marrying the late Robert H. Wright, her husband of 50 years and a veteran Alcoan.They lived in Fairfield, CT, where they were instrumental in establishing the Fairfield Methodist Church. After 7 years in Westfield, NJ, they moved to Pittsburgh, PA where Ruth was a Trustee, a handbell ringer and a member of the Contact Teleministry team at Fox Chapel Presbyterian Church.Retiring to Tryon, NC they joined the Tryon Presbyterian Church and both were volunteers and St. Luke's Hospital.Ruth's hobbies were collecting and lecturing on bells and their history, philately and genealogy.She is survived by her sons, Robert H. Wright Jr. of Pittsburgh, PA, Cooper L. Wright of Warrenton, VA and John M. Wright of Mason, OH and her brother, Dr. Robert S. Martin of Unadilla, NY and their families including a granddaughter, two grandsons and four great grandchildren.A private interment at Tryon Presbyterian Church will be followed by a Memorial Service in the Tryon Estates Auditorium on May 10, 2007 at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. Mary Potter and Rev. Ralph Kuether officiating.Memorials may be made to St. Luke's Hospital, 101 Hospital Drive, Columbus, NC 28782.
