Born in Polk County, North Carolina, on May 10, 1934, Ruth was the eighth of thirteen children born to the late Grayson Andrew and Minnie Williams Turner. She grew up in a loving household, surrounded by her siblings: Albert, John, James, Juanita, Eunice, Margaret, Terrell, Shirley, Clyde, Peggy, Larry, and Barbara.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, eleven siblings, and beloved grandson, Matthew Greenway. She is survived by her devoted husband of 74 years, Thomas Sidney Greenway, Jr., and her sister, Barbara Turner Davidson (Maurice).
A dedicated wife, mother, sister, and friend, Ruth spent her life caring for others—both in her family and in her profession. She served as an operating room nurse at St. Luke's Hospital in Columbus, North Carolina, where her skill and dedication left a lasting impact on countless lives.
Ruth's love extended to her children: Brad Greenway (Melanie), Randy Greenway, Marc Greenway (Andrea), Tracie Morris (Jeff), and AFS daughter, Penrat Panrob. She was a proud grandmother to Jason Greenway (Jennie), Amanda Bender (Jesse), Matthew Greenway, Vivian Lentchitsky (Rob), Nicholas Greenway (Amanda), Ryan Greenway (Vanessa), Jonathan Greenway (Kerri) and Tomas Morris, and eight great-grandchildren.
She cherished cooking, crocheting and reading, found great joy in her family, and lived her life with quiet strength and grace. Ruth was a member of Mill Creek Church of the Brethren for more than seven decades and served as financial secretary until her death.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to Mae Hawkins and Nathan Stott for their assistance and care.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Ruth's memory may be made to The Meeting Place (Meals on Wheels), 75 Carmel Lane, Columbus, NC.
