Ruby Lawter Raines, 93, of Lynn, passed away, Sunday morning, September 7, 2025, at the Hospice of the Carolina Foothills Hospice House in Forest City following a short illness.
She was born and raised in the Coopers Gap Community of Polk County and was the daughter of the late T.D. Lawter and Mertie Bradley Lawter. Mrs. Raines was a homemaker housewife and enjoyed taking care of young children. She also loved growing things with her natural green thumb and could grow anything, enjoyed sewing, making up her own quilt patterns, cooking, creating her own special recipes and slow walks in the evening.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 49 years, Frank Raines who passed away January 13, 2009; one sister, Gladys Lawter of Coopers Gap, special aunt, Bonnie Pack whom she was very close, even when Bonnie suffered from Alzheimer's.
Surviving are two sons, Steve L. Raines of the home and John W. Raines of Mill Spring; two close and special cousins, Jean Woolard of Fletcher and Marie Lawter of Columbus. Also surviving are several cousins in Polk County.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 12, 2025, in Polk Memorial Gardens in Columbus with Dr. Chris Osborn officiating.
