Obituary

Tryon, NC--Rosy Schlueter, This last Monday afternoon, the 26th of June, a very special thing happened. In that place known as Heaven, a joyful, beautiful woman was welcomed as Rosy Monica Schlueter left this life to join her husband Joe, brother Chris Strachwitz, family and friends, and countless beloved horses, dogs and cats that passed before her.
Rosy was born in Berlin, Germany on June 6, 1933. Escaping the advancing Russian Army in 1945, she and her family settled in Reno, Nevada. She attended the University of Nevada at Reno and received degrees in education and physical education. She coached a winning basketball team made up of girls from the local reservation, but most noteworthy, fell in love with horses and riding, a passion she pursued her whole life.
She met her future handsome husband, Joe on the Naval Air Station in Argentia, Newfoundland, where she was a teacher and he a pilot, and they enjoyed an adventurous and passionate relationship. Together, they raised two very lucky children, Patricia and Tim during time spent in Long Island, Connecticut, and then settling in Tryon in 1986. An avid volunteer at local animal shelters as well as counseling at Birthright in Hendersonville she was an enthusiastic member of St. John The Baptist Catholic Church in Tryon, North Carolina. But her greatest joy was to be on a horse, with daughter Patricia and dear local friends, either showing, partaking in local hunt organizations or simply trail riding, the longer the ride, the better!
She is remembered by all who knew and loved her as somewhat opinionated and strong willed, but who above all embodied joy, happiness and enthusiasm toward family and friends. Especially if it involved a saddle, bridle, reins and an open trail ahead of her.
She is survived by daughter Patricia Schlueter; son, Tim Schlueter; sisters, Frances Strachwitz and Barbara Enstad and brother, Hugh Strachwitz.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 8, 2023 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Tryon, North Carolina.
Burial will follow the service at Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Landrum, South Carolina.
