Saluda, NC- Roland Martin Singleton peacefully left this world for his eternal home Saturday, November 8, 2008 from Saluda, NC. Mr. Singleton was born in Greenville County, SC on Saturday, October 23, 1943 to his parents Edna Cook and Charles Redmond Singleton. He was predeceased by his parents and following siblings; Rudolph Freeman, Oscar Singleton, Tom Singleton, Charles T. Singleton, Polly Robinson, Sallie Mae Smith, Ola Culbertson, Mary Rogers and Ida Darby. Roland served in the 509th Infantry of the United States Army for 3 years. He was an Airborne Paratrooper and served in Germany. He received a number of accommodations and citations while faithfully serving our country prior to receiving an Honorable Discharge from the United States Army of March 31, 1968. Roland was a faithful member at Warrior Mountain Baptist Church and wanted everyone to accept Jesus Christ and join him in heaven. Mr. Singleton was employed by ABF and recently received the One Million Mile Accident Free Award. Roland loved spending time in the midst of and surrounded by his beloved family which included the love of his life, his devoted and loving wife of 31 years, Betsy Anderson Singleton, three remarkable sons; Michael Singleton of Lexington, SC, Charles Singleton and his wife Dawn of Saluda, NC and Anthony Singleton of the home and his fiancée, Cari O'Dell; three delightful and precious grandchildren; Michael's daughter, Stacey and his mother, Barbara, Charles' daughter, Sydney and Charles' son, Ian; his sister, Rena Cole of Easley, SC. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Thank you to the staff of Four Seasons Hospice for the genuine compassion to Roland and his family. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 11, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. in the McFarland Funeral Chapel, Tryon, NC, with Rev. Brian Caudle, Rev. Robert Garren and Pastor Nickolas Vlahos officiating. Burial will follow in Saluda City Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday, November 10, 2008 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. in McFarland Funeral Chapel, Tryon, NC.
