COLUMBUS, NC - Robert James Thrift, 101, of Laurel Lake Drive, Columbus, NC died Thursday, October 19, 2006 in Tryon Estates, Columbus, NC.Born in Cincinnati, OH, he was the son of the late Douglas and Martha Kegel Thrift. He attended the University of Cincinnati and graduated from Purdue University in 1931. Mr. Thrift retired from Dupont in 1970. He was the husband of the late Erna K. Thrift who died in 1973 and Elizabeth Thrift who died in 1990. Mr. Thrift was a member of the Tryon Congregational Church, Tryon, NC.Surviving are two daughters, Nancy Murdock of Marietta, OH and Robin Mason of Oklahoma City, OK; one stepdaughter, Sally Walker of Columbus, NC. Also surviving are 5 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and 1 step-granddaughter.Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 23, 2006 in Tryon Estates Auditorium in Columbus, NC with Rev. Ralph Kuether officiating. .
