Obituary

Born in Polk County, he was the son of the late Joseph Eugene and Augusta Lovin Taylor. Mr. Taylor served in the United States Army during Battle of the Bulge, receiving four bronze stars, a purple heart, a good conduct medal, and a WWII Victory Medal. He was an active member of the Polk County V.F.W. Post #10349 in Mill Spring for 10 years. Mr. Taylor enjoyed fishing, racing, and baseball. Mr. Taylor was a member of Crossroads Baptist Church in Zirconia.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Robert Lee Taylor Jr., a daughter, Jetsy Bungener, a brother, Cecil Taylor, and a sister, Lucy Henson.Surviving is one son, Steve Taylor of E. Flat Rock, NC; one daughter, Tita Hyde of Arden, NC; five grandchildren, Serina Bell, Natasha Slater, Kimberly Hyde, Robert Hyde and Tyler Hyde; four great-grandchildren, Ethan Hyde, Mason Childers, Bailey Womack and Alyssa Womack.A funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 12, 2017 in the McFarland Funeral Chapel with Rev. Allan Martin officiating.The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. at the funeral chapel.Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens, Columbus, NC, with Military Rites by the Polk County Veteran Memorial Honor Guard.
