Mill Spring, NC - Robert John "Duck" Ruff, 75, of 251 Ruff Lane died Monday evening, June 9, 2008 at his home.Born in Polk County, NC, he was the son of the late Howard James and Rose Agatha Norman Ruff, Sr. He was a veteran having served in the US Army. He was a self-employed as a mechanic and contractor. Duck was a member of Horse Creek Masonic Lodge # 719 in Columbus, Bryant Womack-Ray Bradley VFW Post No. 10349, Mill Spring and was also a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church. He was first married to Susan Bell Ruff who died in 1989.Surviving is his wife, Rita Newman Ruff of the home. Three sons Phillip, Ricky and Dale Ruff all of Mill Spring, NC. One brother, Bill Ruff of Holly Springs, SC; two sisters, Norma Shehan of Mill Spring, NC and Gladys Melton of Rutherfordton, NC. Also surviving are three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Graveside memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, June 12, 2008 in Polk Memorial Gardens, Columbus, NC with Rev. Jerry Jackson officiating.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, 130 Forest Glen Drive, Columbus, NC 28722.
