COLUMBUS, NC - Robert "Bob" Ramsey Richardson, Jr., 86, of Columbus, NC passed away Thursday afternoon, September 26, 2013 in the Hospice House of the Carolina Foothills, Landrum, SC.Born in New Orleans, LA, he was the son of the late Robert Ramsey Richardson, Sr. and Geneva Adams Richardson. Mr. Richardson attended Asheville School and entered the US Navy serving during WWII. He worked for the Richardson Company in Melrose Park, Ill from 1947 to 1975 then moving to Tryon and purchased Blue Ridge Weavers retiring in 2000. Mr. Richardson was an avid woodworker designing and building the sets at the Tryon Little Theater for many years and made "Morris the Horse" ornaments and toys. He was a member of the Holy Cross Episcopal Church in Tryon. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Neaman Richardson who died in 1990.Surviving is his wife of 21 years, Ann Peek Richardson: one son, Rob R. Richardson, III (Debra) of Plainfield, Ill; one daughter, Debi Richardson of Plainfield, Ill; one step-son, Trey LaChance of Wrightsville Beach, NC; one step-daughter, Suzanne Yarber (B. Grant) of Raleigh, NC; four grandchildren, Dave, Nici, Holly and Bobby. Also surviving are eight great-grandchildren.A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, September 30, 2013 in the McFarland Funeral Chapel, Tryon, NC with Father Mickey Mugan officiating with military rites presented by the Polk County Memorial Burial Squad.The family will receive friends prior to the service Monday from 1:00 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. in the McFarland Funeral Chapel.Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, 130 Forest Glen Drive, Columbus, NC 28722, Foothills Humane Society, 989 Little Mountain Road, Columbus, NC 28722 or to Tryon Little Theater, 516 South Trade Street, Tryon, NC 28782.
