Tryon, NC - Robert Laine Mason, 67, of Tryon, died April 16, 2014.Born in Pomona, CA, he was the son of Robert Clinton Grey and Kathryn Brosius Mason. Bob grew up in Downingtown, PA and made his home for many in Ft. Myers, FL. He moved to Tryon in 2006. "Big Bob" worked at Harmon Field for many years and truly loved small town life.Bob was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He worked as a constable and with various construction projects across the country.Surviving are his two daughters, Tracey Daniels (Tim) and Ciara Mason; grandchildren Maren and Liam Daniels, all from Tryon. He is also survived by a sister, Judith Mason of Downingtown, PA and Gary Mason of Lewes, DE and his nephew Heath Mason, niece Heather Olseski and a step-daughter Deanna Crone. He will be greatly missed by his devoted "family" at the Tryon Coffeehouse.A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2014 in the McFarland Funeral Chapel with Chaplain Kelly Belcher officiating.In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Big Bob's honor to Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, 130 Forest Glen Dr. Columbus, NC 28722. A fund in his name will also be made to support Harmon Field.
