Obituary

Hendersonville, NC--Robert Louis Henderson, 84, of Hendersonville, NC passed away peacefully Monday, March 31, 2025 in Hendersonville, NC surrounded by family.

Born in Hendersonville, NC, he was the son of the late John Lyndsay and Catherine Frazier Henderson. He graduated from Flat Rock High School and was an avid basketball player and member of FFA. He was a lifelong member at Bethel Wesleyan Church and was active in various positions, serving his church and his Lord. He was well known for his farming expertise, with all future generations coveting the "recipe" to his peppers and perfect-tasting tomatoes. The apple orchard surrounding his home was the source of his passion and the sweat of his brow. Robert was a true sports enthusiast, evident by the games and races he rarely missed watching on tv with his family. He frequented the woods for his love of the hunt, or for the study of the animal subjects with his camcorder in hand on Cades Cove trips with his wife and grandchildren. Wild game suppers and church breakfasts were special events where his culinary skills shined. "Granddaddy," as he was best known, was one-of-a-kind instilling work ethic and laughter into every activity. Joy was evident in his eyes and his infamous grin when watching his grands play, work and hunt.

Preceding Robert in death include brothers, William Henderson and John Henderson; a sister, Sarah Branson; sister-in-law, Jane Henderson and daughter-in-law, Colette Henderson of Hendersonville, NC.

Surviving includes his loving spouse of 64 years, Esther Corwin Henderson; sons, Robby Henderson (wife Kim) of Flat Rock, NC and David Henderson of Hendersonville, NC; and a daughter, Lisa Henderson Hill (Robert Collins) of East Flat Rock, NC; a brother, Thomas Henderson of Flat Rock, NC; sister, Mary Louise Connell of Flat Rock, NC. Grandchildren include: Kemper Henderson (wife Miranda)and great-grandchild Asher; Gary Hill, Kaitlin Henderson Schneider (husband Danny), Evan Hill, and Phillip Henderson (Bailee Elrod) and great-grandchild, Laiken and many nieces and nephews.

Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3:00 pm Sunday, April 6, 2025 at Bethel Wesleyan Church, Flat Rock, NC with Rev. Robby Henderson, Pastor Tim Clark and long-time friend Clyde Amos officiating.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm-3:00 pm on Sunday, April 6, 2025 prior to the service at Bethel Wesleyan Church, Flat Rock, NC. At other times, family and friends are welcome at the home of Robby Henderson.

Burial will be held in Bethel Wesleyan Cemetery, Flat Rock, NC following the service.
