Columbus, NC - Robert Paul (Bob) Crow, 86 of Columbus, NC died December 17, 2011 at the Hospice House of the Carolina Foothills, Landrum, SC after a courageous three year battle with cancer.Born in Minneapolis MN, he was the son of William P. and Rosa M. Crow. He joined the Navy in 1943 and served as a Deck Officer on the USS Thomas Jefferson. He attended Millsaps College, Kansas State University and the University of Oklahoma. He spent 35 years with Pan American World Airways, stationed in San Francisco, Portland, The Fiji Islands, Bangkok, Thailand; Philadelphia and Chicago.He served as President of Tryon Country Club, was an active member of the board of Morgan Chapel Village and volunteered at FENCE. A kind and humorous man, Bob had an avid interest in golf, bridge, traveling and watching the Carolina Panthers.He exemplified Reverend Robert Schuller's motto that "tough times never last, but tough people do."Bob is survived by Helen Luiten Crow, his wife of 62 years and their three sons, Paul of Sinking Spring, PA; Peter (Lisa), of Ketchum, ID; and Stephen of Alexandria, VA. Also surviving are grandchildren Jennifer Crow Pomante (Jason) of Glen Mills, PA, George and Geoffrey Crow of Sinking Spring, PA and Rachel Sanker of Ketchum, ID.Memorial services will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, January 15, 2012 in the McFarland Funeral Chapel, Tryon, NC with Dr. Robert Barrows officiating.
