Robert Byars, 83, of Columbus passed away Thursday morning, October 29, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family.Born in Polk County, he was the son of the late Tom and Ila Byars. Mr. Byars retired from Mohawk Carpets in Landrum after 53 years of service. He enjoyed gardening and working around his home, but the love of his life was taking care of his family. Mr. Byars attended Columbus Baptist Church.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers and eight sisters.Surviving is his loving wife of 59 years, Dorene Aiken Byars; one daughter, Susan Hensley (Ronnie) of Columbus; two girls that he considered his own, Jullie Klerk and Cindy McCoy; two sisters, Sarah Brooks of Landrum and Frances Moody (Phillip) of Duncan; two grandchildren, Lindsey Lunsford (Dustin Reece) and Ashley Talley (Fletcher); three great-grandchildren, Landon Greene, Jaylin Reece and Gage Reece.A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 1, 2020 in Polk Memorial Gardens with Reverend Alan Aiken officiating.Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, P.O.
