COLUMBUS, N.C. - Robert Earle Burnett of 50 Nub Drive, Columbus, NC died Wednesday, September 24, 2008 in the Veterans Hospital, Asheville, NC. Born in Polk County, NC, he was the son of the late Elbert and Pearl Tallent Burnett. Tech SGT Burnett retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1982 and was a member of the Civil Air Patrol. He was a member of Midway Baptist Church in Columbus, NC. Surviving is his wife, Patricia Kuykendall Burnett of the home; Teresa Villa (Paul) of Lacey, WA and Treena Meyers (Brian) of San Diego, CA; one son, David Burnett of Columbus, NC; four sisters, Grace Gilbert of Asheville, NC, Mary Suber and Myrtle Chapman both of Abbeville, SC and Ann Ruff of Bowman, SC; three brothers, Bill Burnette of Columbus, NC, James Burnette of Seneca, SC and Dean Burnett of Plaka, FL. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Ian Cody, Benjamin, Nathan and Aidan Meyers. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 28, 2008 in the McFarland Funeral Chapel, Tryon, NC with Rev. Gary Lockee officiating. Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens, Columbus, NC with full military honors by Shaw Air Force Base. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Saturday evening at the funeral chapel.
