COLUMBUS, NC - Richard Hewitt, Jr. 99, of Laurel Lake Drive, Columbus, NC passed away Wednesday, October 7, 2009 in St. Luke's Hospital in Columbus, NC. Born in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Richard and Katherine Molitor Hewitt. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Marilynn M. Hewitt. Surviving is his wife, Norma Jean Huey Hewitt; one daughter, Suzanne C. Britt and husband, John of Tucker, GA; one son, Richard Hewitt, III and wife, Donna of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; four grandchildren, four great grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Carolyn Ramsey of Atlanta, GA; one brother-in-law, Jerry Huey and wife, Carolyn of Montgomery, AL. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 10, 2009 in the Tryon Estates Auditorium, Columbus, NC with Rev. Ralph Kuether officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Isothermal Community College for the benefit of the Hewitt Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 804, Spindale, NC 28160-0804.
