Reuben Lee Parton, 83, of Tryon, North Carolina, passed away Friday morning, August 22, 2025, at Spartanburg Medical Center.
Born in Rutherfordton, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Verno Parton and MaryJane Rainwater Parton. Reuben was a graduate of Clemson University and worked as an engineer for many years. He then went on to work alongside his brothers in the family business, Parton Lumber Company. He was a member of Gramling Methodist Church.
Reuben never met a stranger. Everyone left his company with a story to tell. Whether he was flying planes, racing Legend cars, cutting horses, or trialing cattle and sheep dogs, he made the most of everyday with a smile on his face. His accomplishments with his cutting horses and sheep and cattle dogs resulted in many championships. He won the National Cattle Dog Championship and Reserve Championship, and has the buckles to prove it.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five siblings, Nell Earley, Hazel Parton, Geraldine Lammonds, Rudolph Parton and Juanita Rigdon.
Surviving is his loving wife of twenty-one years, Camilla Rogers Brandon; three daughters, Tanya Watson (Jason) of Inman, South Carolina, Shelli Allen (Joey) of Forest City, North Carolina and Jennifer Travis (Bart) of Raleigh, North Carolina; two step-daughters, Darien Taylor of Los Angeles, California and Schorr Taylor (Eric) of Tryon, North Carolina; one brother, Carl Parton (Cassandra) of Rutherfordton, North Carolina; one sister, Wanda Mayo (Alfred) of Rutherfordton, North Carolina; four grandchildren, Katie Coffey, Hannah Whisnant, Emma Coffey and Cash Taylor; and one great-grandchild, Avery Whisnant. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews whom he loved.
A private celebration of Reuben's life will be held at a later date.
