Columbus, NC- Rebecca Ritchey Rome,70, passed away on Wednesday, September 7, 2016 after a long battle with cancer.Rebecca was born to the late Joseph and Marion Hines Ritchey. She was employed at Polk County Department of Social Service and retired after 30 years of service and served as a member of the Columbus City Council for 8 years. Rebecca was a member of Columbus Baptist Church.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Warren Dennis Rome, who passed away in 2012. Surviving is her son Christopher J. Rome of Columbus, NC; a sister, Marion Lockhart (Del) of Spartanburg, SC; a brother, Paul Ritchey, of Columbus, NC. She is also survived by a niece, Donna Lazar; a nephew, Bruce Lockhart; two great nieces and one great nephew.Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, 130 Forest Glen Drive, Columbus, NC 28722 or Columbus Baptist Church, 45 Houston Rd, Columbus, NC 28722.No services are planned at this time.
