Tryon, NC – Raymond Arledge McLees, III, 83, passed away Monday, December 15, 2025 in Tryon, NC, with family at his side. Born in Anderson, SC, he was the son of the late Raymond A. McLees, Jr. and Martha Prince McLees. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dianne Kennedy McLees.
Ray was a proud graduate of Wofford College where he was a brother in the Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity. He worked in the textile industry in South Carolina, Charlottesville, VA, and Philadelphia, PA, before moving to Tryon where he joined the A.G. Edwards Tryon Office as an Investment Advisor. Ray was passionate about the Tryon community and friends, music, wine, and the Blue Ridge mountains. He served on the Board of Directors of the Tryon Concert Association, was a member of the Rotary Club of Tryon, and volunteered with the Pacolet Area Conservancy. He attended Central United Methodist Church in Spartanburg, SC where he was an enthusiastic member of the church choir. Ray was an esteemed storyteller and a well-loved bon vivant.
Ray is survived by his son, Raymond A. McLees IV (wife Jennifer Montgomery McLees) of Lyons CO; daughter, Dr. Margaret Prince McLees (husband Dr. Patrick J. Bosque) of Denver, CO; son, Lander Barr McLees of Denver, CO; and two granddaughters.
A Memorial service will be held on June 27, 2026 at 11 AM at Central United Methodist Church, Spartanburg, SC, officiated by Rev Arthur Holt, immediately followed by a reception for friends and family in the Fellowship Hall. A private family graveside service will be held at the Old Silverbrook Cemetery, Anderson, SC.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
