Obituary
Columbus, NC—Elbert "Ray" Higgins, 81, passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2024 with his wife by his bedside.
Ray was the son of the late James Elbert and Alta Foster Higgins. He worked as a Construction Foreman for the Morgan Corporation and retired after 40 plus years of service. Ray loved his family and always made sure to put them first in his life. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Ray enjoyed racing, fishing, camping and watching and reading westerns.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Betty Jean, Barbara, Debra and Cathy and one brother, Jerry.
Surviving is his wife, Jean J. Higgins; four children, Eric Edwards (Paula Richardson), Scott Edwards (Deb), Krista Edwards, and Danny Boyce (Melinda); nine grandchildren, Kirsten, Tyler, Sara, Clayton, Allison, D'Anna, Hannah, Jennifer, and Joshua; 20 great grandchildren; two brothers, Doug Higgins, and David Higgins and two sisters, Lois Emmanuel and Karen Higgins. Also surviving are many special nieces and nephews.
Per his wishes, a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
