Tryon, NC - Peter Alyea, 60, of Tryon, N.C. passed away Saturday, July 21, 2012 in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.Peter was born August 30, 1951 in Rutherford, NJ and he was the son of the late Garrabrant R Alyea and Janet Olcott Alyea of Columbus, NC. Peter was a 1970 graduate of Rutherford High School and a 1975 graduate of Carroll College, Helena, Montana. He received a BA in Communication Arts and Theatre Arts and was an honorary member of Alpha Psi Omega Dramatic Fraternity and Lambda Iota Tau an International Literature Honor Society. After college Peter worked in accounting and various other jobs until he decided to pursue a career in acting. He appeared in several soap operas on TV including Edge of Night and Search for Tomorrow. In addition he had a number of small roles in films with Rodney Dangerfield and Macauley Caulkin. Peter was led to dinner theatre and spent 15 years managing, directing and acting in dinner theatres in north and south NJ as well as Jupiter, FL. Upon moving to NC in 1992, Peter became a bartender, cook and server at Preston's of Tryon, later Elmo's. He worked there for 12 years.Surviving include his sister, Kathy Alyea of Tryon, brother David Alyea of Ramstein, Germany and brother Brant Alyea of Phiiladelphia, PA. He was predeceased by his brother Bobby Alyea of Rutherford, NJ. Also surviving is his cousin Linda Lovstad of Sparta, NJ, his nephew and Godchild Ryan Pflumm of Raleigh, NC; nephew Keith Alyea of Charlotte, NC, niece Sabrina Graves, niece Jessica Alyea and nephew Sven Alyea of Ramstein, Germany. The family will receive friends from 4-5 pm on Wednesday, July 25 at McFarland Funeral Chapel, Tryon, NC.Graveside services will be held Friday, July 27 at 1:00 pm at Hillside Cemetery in Lyndhurst, NJ where the Alyea family burial site is located.
