Obituary

HENDERSONVILLE, NC - Patricia "Patsy Jane" Proffitt Gaut, 80, died Monday, November 5, 2007, at Pardee Hospital in Hendersonville, NC. She was born June 21, 1927, in Fountain City, TN, the daughter of Paul Beecher Proffitt and Margaret Elizabeth Nelson Proffitt. She graduated from Central High School in Knoxville and attended colleges in Alabama and Tennessee. She was an active member of Central United Methodist Church in Knoxville before moving to Tryon, NC in 1969. She and her husband, Richard Eugene Gaut, owned and operated Melrose Lodge in Tryon, NC for a number of years. More than 20 years ago she moved to Hendersonville, NC, and was employed by Belk department store before her retirement. Her family and friends will always remember her as a loving and devoted mother and friend. She is survived by three daughters, Patti Ann Gaut Rowan and her husband, John Rowan, of Hendersonville, NC, Marlicia Gaut-Correll and her husband, Philip K. Correll, of Hendersonville, NC and Jennifer Gaut Corpening and her husband, Bryan E. Corpening of Saluda, NC; four grandchildren, Joshua P. Burrell and his wife, Dori Cervantes Burrell, of Stuart, FL, Reanna Noel Rowan of Morganton, NC, Dylan Gaut Correll of Hendersonville, NC; Cari Elena Rowan of Hendersonville, NC; two great-grandchildren, Jace Logan Burrell and Delaney Caroline Burrell, both of Florida; a sister-in-law, Candace Wallace Giger of Knoxville; a niece, Alicia Lorraine Wallace Gehring of Fairfax, VA and a beloved first cousin, Judy Willoughby and her family of Virginia and Florida. A private family graveside service will be held in Knoxville. Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
