Columbus, NC - Norma Jean Huey Hewitt, 77, of Tryon Estates, Columbus, NC died Friday, October 8, 2010 in St. Luke's Hospital, Columbus, NC.Born in Douglasville, GA, she was the daughter of the late William Robert and Myrtle Lucile Walton Huey. She was the widow of Richard Hewitt who died in 2009. Jean was a graduate of Mercer University, Macon, GA and had spent her working life as a biologist with the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta, GA. Surviving include one brother, Jerry Huey (Carolyn) of Montgomery, AL; one sister, Carolyn Ramsey of Atlanta, GA; a stepson, Richard Hewitt III (Donna) of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; and a stepdaughter, Suzanne C. Britt (John) of Tucker, GA. Also surviving are five nieces and nephews, four step-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 12, 2010 in the McFarland Funeral Chapel, Tryon, NC with Rev. Ralph Kuether officiating.Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens, Columbus, NC.Memorials may be made to the Lutheran Refugee Resettlement Fund, Lutheran Services of GA, 1330 W.
