SALUDA – Norma Capps Emory, 86, of Saluda, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Sunday morning, July 26, 2026, at Mission Hospital in Asheville, surrounded by her loving family.

Norma was born in Henderson County to the late Forrest Capps and Mae Odum Capps. She grew up in the Green River Community in Henderson County and was one of ten children. During her working career, she worked at J.P. Stevens in Tuxedo and Bommer Hinge in Landrum. Norma also took care of children for working parents for many years.

Norma was a one-of-kind, God fearing, and hard working “Mountain Mama.” She grew up in a musical family; a family that she loved unconditionally. Norma played the piano, accordion and sang with Capps Sisters for many years and was a pianist for several local churches. Norma never missed an opportunity to share the love of Jesus with anyone she came in contact with, whether it was through music or her testimony. Besides music, Norma enjoyed growing a garden and spoiling her children and grandchildren.

Nano was known for her huge personality in a tiny body. Her laughter was contagious and she nearly always had a smile on her face. She enjoyed camping with her family in earlier years. Her grandchildren know her campfire stories by heart. Nano Norma was known for being a theatrical story teller.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Bill Capps and Lonnie Capps; three sisters, Barbara Head, Joan Morgan and Glenda Ray.

Surviving is her loving husband of 67 years, Charlie Emory; two sons, Barry Emory (Janice) of Saluda and Keith Emory (Andi) of Lake Lure; two daughters, Beverly Mashburn (Kent) of Kings Mountain and Samantha Foster (Tim) of Saluda; one brother, Xander Capps (Barbara) of Flat Rock; three sisters, Jean Pace of Saluda, Gretka Wallen of Green River and Diane Buckner (Vern) of Hendersonville. “Nano” to her eight grandchildren, Kinsley Mashburn Craig (Joshua), Trevor Mashburn (Kayla), Drew Foster (Destiny), Dakotah Emory, Hannah Emory, Jessie Emory, Madison Keller (Alex) and Payton Emory; “Nano” to her three great-grandchildren, Sawyer Mashburn, Evie Mashburn and Isla Foster; Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Norma’s life will be held at a later date.
