TRYON –
Nelson Carlyle Pratt, Jr., 93, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 22, 2024, after a brief illness.
He was born in Rockland, Massachusetts on June 27, 1931, to Nelson C. Pratt and Alberta Marsh Pratt. He grew up in Cohasset, Massachusetts and had seven siblings. After high school (where he played the sousaphone in the band), he was drafted into the United States Army and served a combat tour as an infantry sergeant in Korea. He attended Northeastern University, studied electronic engineering, and traveled the world installing large antenna arrays.
Nelson met Mary Louise Wood, and they were married on November 17, 1957, at the Old Ship Church in Hingham, Massachusetts. They lived in the same house on North Main Street, Cohasset for over 60 years, until relocating when Mary's cancer was too much for them to navigate. After Mary's diagnosis, they relocated to Tryon, North Carolina, and lived with their daughter, Susan Pratt Martin and her husband, Cam. Nelson is also survived by one grandson, Theo.
Nelson loved his family; Konohasset Lodge and all his Masonic brethren; the Shriners, the Boy Scouts of Troop 28; the Red Sox; Ham Radio (K1GLB); NASCAR; reading; BBQ ribs; chicken wings; sitting out in the North Carolina warmth listening to the birds; and Oggie, "his" dog.
A private service will be held for Nelson and Mary at a later date.
