Nancy Elizabeth Worsnop, 84, of Columbus, NC died Monday, Jan. 12, 2015 of natural causes. Her children were all able to visit in her final days. She was born on June 14, 1930 in Hollywood, CA, the eldest child of Francis and Dorothy Grignon. The family returned to New York City soon after her birth. Nancy attended Flushing High School and matriculated at Cornell University in 1948. There she met Robert Arthur Worsnop; they married in 1950. Bob's work led the family literally around the world, from Michigan to Australia to Canada and finally back to Plymouth, Michigan. Nancy returned to college at the University of Michigan in 1969 and received a degree in education in 1973. She taught 1st-3rd grades at Isbister Elementary in Plymouth. Nancy and Bob retired in 1979 and moved first to Lake Shastina, California near Mt. Shasta. They re-retired to Columbus in 1987. Nancy became deeply involved with Steps to Hope in Columbus, serving as one of their first board members and starting their first support group. She also volunteered with the American Association of University Women and the Red Cross. She was a member of the Thermal Belt Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in Tryon. She was an avid reader and sports fan with an abiding interest in science her entire life. Survivors include her siblings, Sue Voulgaris of Fair Lawn, NJ; Donald Grignon of Louisville, Ken.; two sons, Douglas Worsnop of Arlington, Mass.; Gregory Worsnop of Paw Paw, Mich.; two daughters, Dana Worsnop of Boise, Id.; Pamela Gleeson of Napa, Calif.; and four grandchildren.The family is planning a private memorial service.
